How to properly install the sink in the countertop?

Among the three existing types of installation, the mortise type is most often used, since it is more hygienic and will allow expanding the working area.

When buying a sink is often asked: how to put a round sink in the kitchen? Well, there is no particular difference in the installation of sinks of various types, mainly when installing only the location is considered - the factor that determines the ergonomics of the sink. Usually the washers are placed at a distance of 50 mm from the edge of the tabletop, and 25 mm from the wall, although, of course, the location will vary depending on the type of sink selected, its size and width of the countertop.

Before installing the kitchen sink, prepare the necessary tools: electric jigsaw, drill, screws and sealant, as well as auxiliary materials: a pencil, a tape measure and a building corner.

  1. First, make a markup on the table top. If you're lucky, and complete with a sink you got a template for marking, safely fix it with paint tape and circle. Otherwise, just flip the sink and circle the pencil around the perimeter. In both cases, do not forget about the laid backs from the edges of the countertop.
  2. After tracing the main contour, make 1 cm allowance for fixing the sink, cut the hole we will be along the contour of this allowance. Before cutting the countertop under the sink, make large holes in the corners of the marked contour with a drill. These holes serve as an entrance for the jigsaw. We cut off the cut parts with screws, in order to avoid a sharp fall, or to break off the countertop.
  3. Sink around the perimeter of the siphon seal. Usually it goes in the kit, but if it is not provided, then it is enough to use any moisture-resistant material.
  4. Before installation, cover the surface of the countertop with silicone sealant. Another way to seal is to pour silicone into the hole between the surface of the countertop and the sink.
  5. Install the sink, leveling it according to the drawing of the first contour, tighten the fasteners and clean the surface of the silicone sealant with a napkin. In a day, after drying the sealant, a sink can be used.
