A couple of decades ago, no student could afford to come to the class without a starched collar and cuffs. Today things are not so often starched, but there are special cases when this skill can be very useful.
If you like everything to bring in a perfect appearance, before you starch things that surround the body, think carefully. Starch makes things very dense and they stop "breathing". Here you need to choose between the appearance of clothing and body hygiene.
How to starch clothes?
You can buy the finished product and follow the instructions clearly. In supermarkets today a very wide choice of such means. And you can buy potato, corn or rice starch and prepare the mixture yourself.
Regardless of how you decided to starch clothes, the solution is prepared according to one principle. First, starch should be diluted in cold water to form a consistency, similar to sour cream. Further pour boiling water, while the solution is constantly stirred, so that lumps do not form. The resulting mass should be transparent. If the solution is cloudy, it can be boiled slightly on low heat.
Now, in more detail, consider the methods of starching for each case:
- How to starch the laundry. For laundry, average starching is suitable. One liter of water is bred about 1 tbsp. tablespoons of starch. If the thing is white, look at the yellow spots before starching the laundry. You can remove them with hydrogen peroxide. Just put a little peroxide on the stain and put it in a place brightly lit by the sun. After a while, the stain will disappear.
- How to starch clothes made from light and thin fabrics. For batiste or thin flax, the concentration of starch should be slightly less. This is the so-called easy starching. It is enough to dilute 1 teaspoon of starch per liter of water. After the clothes are processed with a paste, it must be gently squeezed and dried. Allow the product to lie down for several hours, then iron it with an iron. This method is also suitable for collars of thin fabrics (such as chiffon or cambric), for tulle.
- How to starch the collar. Starched collar always looks neat and gives the shirt a presentable look. Before starching properly, wash the collar and remove all yellow spots with peroxide if it is a white shirt. We make paste for hard starching. In a liter of cold water, you need to dilute 50 g of starch. Then add boron sodium salt (15 g), pre-dissolving it in a glass of hot water. When the water and salt cools down, it can be added to the starch solution. Insist this mixture should be at least two hours. Then the product, in our case, the collar, is lowered into this solution.
Then the clothes should be wrung out and spread on a clean white cloth for further drying. Completely dry the fabric is not necessary, still the wet collar needs to be ironed. - How to starch the tablecloth. If a holiday starches a tablecloth, it will look solemn, while it will be less scrap. Dissolve 10 g of starch in one liter of water, this is approximately 1 teaspoon. When everything is ready, dip the tablecloth into the prepared solution and mix well, so the fabric will evenly soak. Then squeeze and dry everything.
- Treating things in this way, you do not just give them a more presentable look. After this procedure, clothes are less dirty and last longer retains their appearance, does not crumble so much.
