Restoration of furniture by own hands

During the renovation, I want to update not only the interior of the apartment, but also furniture. Modern fashion is very changeable and constantly offers more and more varied options of soft and wooden furniture. Do not rush to throw out old sofas or cabinets at once, send them into a link to the dacha. There are many ways to restore furniture with your own hands, with which you can breathe new life into old things.

Restoration of upholstered furniture by own hands

Even an entirely old chair can be turned into a fashionable piece of furniture. Of course, it is better to entrust the restoration of leather furniture to specialists, but with their own hands it is possible to update the fabric upholstery completely.

  1. From here we will make a new chair. We remove the edge, which previously covered the fastening of the fabric.
  2. Then we remove the upholstery fabric. Most often it is attached to the base with metal staples. (photo 2)
  3. After all the procedures there is a bare frame.
  4. Now we need to thoroughly brew the entire surface to prepare it for a new coating. All chipped or other flaws are covered with epoxy putty.
  5. Again, we contour the surface and achieve the most smooth state of the tree.

  7. In the intervals between the layers, the surface is ground.
  8. For the restoration of the furniture seat, a foam of increased rigidity with a thickness of at least 5 cm is suitable for yourselves. We put the foam in two layers. Fix it with a cloth. If you have selected a fabric with a pattern, then it should be centered in the process.
  9. First fix a few staples on the sides.
  10. It is very convenient to fix the fabric, if you ask someone to sit on a chair. Then stretching will be ideal.
  11. To restore the backrest we fix the foam rubber. To give the roundness on top, put a layer of sintepon. Next, we shoot the fabric on the sides and at the top.
  12. Be sure to watch the layout of the picture. Then gradually bending the fabric inside fix it all along the perimeter.
  13. From pieces of old foam rubber we cut out new preparations for armrests. First we fix the inner and outer parts. At the end, symmetrically lay the folds and fix them.
  14. Throughout the perimeter we lay a decorative cord.

Restoration of wooden furniture with your own hands

Old furniture from solid wood and plywood is often much stronger and more reliable than modern furniture. We offer to consider an uncomplicated version of the restoration of lacquered furniture with your own hands.

  1. First remove a layer of old paint or varnish. For this, it is convenient to use sandpaper, sometimes a chisel helps.
  2. On the cabinets and around the perimeter glue polyurethane moldings . On the cover wide at least 5.5 cm, for lockers fit more narrow.
  3. We work on the surface with a primer or a diluted PVA glue.
  4. Next, we paint the entire surface with acrylic water-based paint. The author of the lesson used the color of "coffee with milk." The paint is applied in three layers, each subsequent applied after the full drying of the previous one.
  5. Lockers are finished with wallpaper made of foamed acrylic. Glue is used on a water basis, after complete drying the surface is treated with varnish (also water-based).
  6. Then screw the new handles on the lockers. As the legs we use wooden door handles.
  7. After work, we check the quality of the handles and, if necessary, rub the inside of the boxes with paraffin (so they will be easier to slide on the rails).
