Bathing suits

Modern fashionistas rarely use the concept of "bathing suit", replacing it with "swimsuit" or "bikini". And the association causes this definition to be ambiguous. Immediately it seems something closed, dense and uncomfortable. By the way, some bathing suits for women were just like that, and now these swimsuits are used in observing the religious canons of Muslim women. But first things first.

History of a bathing suit

Attitude to clothing for swimming at all times was different. In the fourth century BC, residents of Greece and the Roman Empire indulged in water procedures in clothing, the silhouette of which very much resembles a modern swimsuit. This is evidenced by the frescoes of Pompeii, which depicts women in robes sewn in the likeness of modern bikinis and a bra bando .

Contrasting the Greek and Roman fashion was medieval Europe. At that time, a naked female body was the object of unpardonable sin and liberties, so the girls, even during bathing, struggled to hide the figure under their clothes. A woman's bathing suit of the 17th and 19th centuries consisted of a dress / shirt, long trousers and a bonnet. He was sewn from a dense multilayered fabric, which, even when wet, remained opaque and retained heat. That the dress for bathing did not get up, to its hem attached small weights.

In the 19th century, they invented a "bathing machine", which was designed to protect women from extraneous views. Bathers sat in a covered wagon and went to the shallows where they swam near the van.

Modern tendencies

By the 20th century, swimsuits have become simpler and more democratic. Disappearing uncomfortable "bathing stockings" disappear into the past frills and other details for "preserving good behavior." In the 1920s, active sports and intense sunburn became indispensable attributes of women of fashion. Pale skin and thinness are perceived as signs of illness. Women want to show their trained body, accordingly, the swimsuit becomes all open. In 1930, there is a piece bathing suit for the pool, designed for comfortable swimming.

For today it is possible to allocate more than 10 models of swimsuits, the most memorable among which are:

  1. Bikini. The invention of Luis Girdom maximally open swimsuit has stirred up the world of beach fashion. Women have become accustomed to the new model for more than 10 years, considering it too vulgar and provocative. Today, every fifth girl in the world has a bikini.
  2. Monokini. Bathing suit, created in the 60s by fashion designer Rudy Guernreich, is a cross between a split and a swimsuit. The monokini swimsuit has deep cutouts on the sides and a decorative strip of fabric or a chain that connects the top and trunks.
  3. Closed bathing suit. In this model, a woman feels very comfortable, as the tissue hides small skin defects and figures. Piece swimsuits are ideal for full women and girls, professionally engaged in swimming.

Bathing suit for Muslim women

The Shariah demands oblige women to close all attractive parts of the body, therefore Muslims have a completely different fashion that is incomprehensible to contemporary non-Muslim girls. Earlier, Muslim women bathed right in long dresses and a headscarf (hijab). It was very uncomfortable, since multi-layer clothing soaked up water and became heavy and unpleasant. Then the designers developed a special Muslim bathing suit "burkini", consisting of a dense hood and tight-fitting trouser suit with a sewn skirt. Arabian bathing suit covers the entire body except for the face, palms of the feet. The only decoration of the Burkin are bright prints and small decorative frills.
