Aquarium Shrimp - Species

Types of freshwater shrimp for the aquarium

  1. Cherry shrimps. The bright color of the shrimp of this species instantly attracts the eyes, so it is not surprising that they are the most common crustaceans in domestic aquariums. The red color of different individuals may differ greatly from a dark cherry to a lighter tangerine color. Note the unpretentiousness and peaceful disposition of these shrimps, which allows even beginners to keep them calmly together with most species of fish and snails.
  2. Tiger chrimp. The name of these creatures 30-40 mm long was obtained because of its yellow-brown striped coloration. This kind of shrimp for an aquarium can be safely mixed in one vessel with cherry shrimp. They can not interbreed, and therefore, hybridization and loss of external traits in the offspring will not occur.
  3. Shrimp amano. This species of crustaceans is slightly larger, amano can grow up to 6 cm in length. These creatures seem almost transparent, which allows them to perfectly mask themselves. The hue of the color of the body depends on the habitat of the shrimp and the type of food.
  4. Green shrimp. Very fast growth and a noticeable dark green color make these aquatic inhabitants good candidates for any aquarium. For a week, babies, who from birth are at first dark red, are able to double their size and go faster than all other species from infancy to maturation. Adult individuals acquire a juicy-green color, which will not change until the end of life.
  5. Yellow shrimps. These crustaceans originated from Japan, only in 2006 it began to be widely distributed in domestic aquariums. Males of this species have exceptionally yellow color of the calf, and the female along the back has a distinctive feature in the form of a thin strip.
