The vocalist and leader of the legendary rock band Queen this year would celebrate its 70th anniversary. In honor of the jubilee of the late musician, astronomers decided to call his name an asteroid.
Such a gift to the famous British artist was made by the representatives of the International Astronomical Union. They decided to rename in honor of Freddie the heavenly body, which was discovered by scientists just in the year of the death of the musician. Recall that on November 24, 1991, Mercury died at the age of 45 years. He was an open gay and infected with AIDS.
About that from now on in Space there will be an asteroid named 17473 Freddiemercury, to journalists told Brian May, friend and colleague Mercury on group Queen:
"This is the most significant object of the asteroid belt, which is located between the planets of Jupiter and Mars. Its length is 3.5 kilometers. Of course, from Earth this celestial body seems a tiny radiant point, and in order to properly consider it, you will need serious astronomical equipment.
