History of the sundress

Each thing, like every person, has its own story, which is often surprisingly interesting and even in some unexpected way. For example, the story of a sundress. It would seem that the usual summer clothes for the fair sex, so no, the history of it has more than one century.

The history of Russian sarafan

The dress was always considered to be a Russian dress. According to the information collected by historians from the annals, the first mention of it dates back to the distant 14th century. Then the sarafan was worn by both men and women. There was even a concept of sarafan-shirts for the male population. And only in the XVII century he became exclusively women's clothing, adornment of beautiful maidens.

It is worth noting an interesting fact concerning the word "sarafan" itself. Initially, they called it menswear - a kind of caftan, which was often worn by boyars. A little later, "sarafan" began to mean and women's outfit, but already in the XVII century, this word began to be called only women's clothing. In addition, it is surprising that this word is borrowed, presumably from the Turkic language. It's strange that people's Russian clothes were called a somewhat modified Turkic word, but there's nothing to be done. It can be assumed that these chaste dresses in some way came to us from the East, although there are no historical facts confirming this.

So, the history of the sundress, as a woman's clothing, begins already from the XVII century, and then it continues to develop rapidly. Already in the XX century, designers began to offer girls more interesting versions of sarafans, with new fashionable details. In the second half of the XX century, there were short models of sarafans, which made a real furore in the fashion sphere.

If once the dress was either simple clothes, or too exquisite for wealthy gentlemen, now the fashion industry annually offers girls a huge selection of sundresses for every taste.
