Whatever the ideal repair in the apartment, after some time it will have to be updated. And most often not the walls, but the ceiling, suffer from the time: the color of the whitewash changes, and imperceptible cracks can form on the ceiling. In areas with high seismic hazard, cracks in the ceiling from regular earthquakes can be noticeable and spoil the appearance of the room.
How to cover the crack on the ceiling?
Repair of cracks in the ceiling begins with the opening, or "cutting" the crack. This procedure is carried out so that the solution, which will be repaired by the ceiling, completely filled the crack and did not leave any voids in it.
A solution for sealing ceilings on the ceiling is prepared from chalk and gypsum, or ready-made putty of industrial production is bought.
- branded putty has its advantages over self-made paste from chalk and gypsum:
- putty retains its elasticity longer (that is itself does not give cracks);
- putty better protects against penetration of moisture (that is, it keeps the repaired surface longer in the proper form).
Stages of repair of the cracked ceilings:
- crack opening to a depth of at least 3 mm;
- crack treatment with water and drying - is carried out in order to clear the crack from dust;
- small cracks are filled with putty in several layers, gradually, as the first applied are dried;
- deep cracks for the beginning will have to be closed with a reinforcing mesh, and already on it to impose plaster. After the plaster dries, apply a basic layer of putty (or a dry mixture to level the ceiling);
- The last step is polishing the ceiling with sandpaper.
If there is a risk of leaks, which is especially important for owners of apartments of the last floors, it is advisable to use a mounting foam or sealants to seal deep cracks on the ceiling.
