Mount Triglav

Mount Triglav is the highest peak in the country of Slovenia , as well as the former Yugoslavia and the mountain range of the Julian Alps, its height is 2864 m. The mountain range has become the national symbol of Slovenia, it is depicted on the coat of arms and the flag of the country. Slovenia is quite a small country, but it has a huge national park , which is a neighborhood around Mount Triglav and other mountain ranges, so the terrain around is incredibly green and picturesque.

Interesting facts about Mount Triglav

Its name Mount Triglav received precisely because of the triceps top. It is clearly visible in the image on the flag of Slovenia, you can watch it live from Bohinj. For the first time the mountain was conquered on August 26, 1778, four mountaineers - Slovenes Luca Korosets, Matia Kos, Stefan Rožić and Lovrenz Villomitzer made it. At the top of the Main Triglav there is an Aljazhev pillar, it looks like a metal structure and you can go inside. It was raised by priest Jacob Alyazh in 1895.

In the mythology of Mount Triglav it is said that on its slopes lived a mountain goat Zlatogor with horns of pure gold. He had his own garden and secret treasures, which he well guarded. But the hunter came to him and shot Zlatogor, but the sacred animal managed to rise again. In a rage, he killed the offender, destroyed his garden and disappeared forever. It's interesting that one Slovenian beer company started using the Zlatarog emblem on its beer.

To date, the entire natural environment of the mountain has remained untouched. On the peaks lies eternal snow, and on the slopes grow dense green forests. In this area live lynx, bears, mountain goats and other animals. Located in the middle of the national park, Triglav divides the basins of the two seas: the Black and the Adriatic. Mountain water, which escapes from the northern and western streams, feeds the Sochi basin, and the eastern and southern ones are directed to the Sava basin. At the top there is a place where you can leave your seal, which confirms the successful ascent of this mountain. Many people go to the top to get to the valley of glacial lakes Triglav , which is an extremely picturesque sight. Active tourists are engaged in this area by mountaineering, downhill skiing and rafting.

How to get there?

It is most convenient to get to Triglav Mountain by bus, which leaves from the bus station of Bled . The journey takes about half an hour.
