Moldovan folk costume

Moldova is one of the countries where the great influence of other cultures can be traced to the traditional (Moldavian) national costume. Virtually all elements of the attire were borrowed from other peoples. The main component was a tunic-shaped shirt, or with one-piece sleeves. Such shirts were richly decorated with embroidery, as well as floral ornament along the chest, hem and collar. Especially popular were outfits with embroidery counting stitches. This is a bench, a cross and a surface.

Features of the Moldovan folk costume

The distinctive features of the Moldovan dress are cut in the waist, belt, the use of white fabric and a towel-like headdress. Before the marriage, the Moldovan folk costume excludes the wearing of the headdress, and on holidays the costume was decorated with beads, earrings and rings. It is noteworthy that in a suit only a combination of two or three shades was allowed, and embroidery was performed in most cases in black.

Special attention should be paid to skirts that were sewn from pure wool or cotton with a woolen duck. The most popular model was the skirt "catrină", which is a whole uncoated fabric that was wrapped around the hips. The main thing is that one sex falls on the other, after which the skirt is fastened with a belt. In the cool season, women wore vests, richly decorated with ornaments.

The history of the Moldovan folk costume changed in the 19th century when linen aprons entered fashion. The presence of such an apron and headgear pointed to the status of women in society. Describing the Moldovan folk costume, do not forget about its obligatory details - the belt. In Moldova, the belt served as an indicator of the woman's age, and only adults wore it. In addition to woolen fabrics in the fashion were silk belts of different colors.
