Neon fish - reproduction

Already almost a hundred years, neon fish are popular all over the world. They are unpretentious, they feed on any food and can live in any water. But despite the fact that the content of neon fish does not cause problems even for beginning aquarists, it is more difficult to breed than other fish. For spawning, they need special conditions.

How to breed neon fish?

These fish reach puberty in 6-9 months. The spawning period lasts from October to January, but can occur at any other time. Large females are selected with a belly filled with caviar and active males. For the successful reproduction of neon fish it is necessary to properly contain them: to feed them preferably with live food and maintain a not very high temperature in the aquarium. Before spawning, somewhere in two weeks, it is necessary to keep males and females separately and feed them intensively. After that, they need to be planted in a specially prepared small aquarium, preferably in the afternoon. At this time, it is better not to feed them.

What should be an aquarium for neon spawning?

For reproduction of aquarium fish of neon it is necessary to observe certain rules:

  1. The aquarium should be slightly extended, not less than 40 centimeters in length. It is desirable to disinfect it.
  2. It must be darkened, at least two walls, the sun's rays should not fall on it, as eggs emerge from them.
  3. Water must be defended and for successful fertilization of caviar it should be soft and not colder 24 degrees. Pour it a little - no more than 20 centimeters.
  4. Soil in such an aquarium is not needed. At the bottom put the Javanese moss or synthetic sponge. Admissible plants such as fern or cryptorin. It is desirable to put a net on the bottom so that the fish do not eat their eggs.

If you planted fish in spawning in the evening, then in the morning they usually spawn. The female can sweep out about 200 non-sticky eggs. After this, the producers need to be planted in a common aquarium, and the spawning grounds are darkened. Usually in a day the fry is hatching. And they begin to swim in 4-5 days. If all these conditions are met, breeding neon fish is not that difficult.
