Rakvere Theater


Rakvere (German name - Wesenberg) is a small town in the north of Estonia with a population of 17,000 people. It is located exactly in the middle between two cities - Tallinn and Narva . One of the city's attractions is the Rakvere Theater. Interesting is the fact that Rakvere is considered to be the smallest city with a theater. But the status of the smallest city does not affect the quality of theatrical productions. After all, Rakvere theater is one of the best in Estonia!

A little bit about the history of the theater

The history of this place begins with the building here of the Franciscan monastery in the 16th century. Then the manor complex began to expand. The place was named the Manor of Wesenberg. The year of the beginning of the manor's existence was 1618. The historic manor house was built in 1670. At first it was a one-story building, after years another one floor was erected. At the end of completion, the house becomes popular. In the 1930s. in the right part of the building a theater was built. The exact date of its opening is known - February 22, 1940. At present it occupies the entire area of ​​the historical structure. Since then, the theater doors have been open to visit to this day.

The theater's repertoire includes Estonian own dramaturgy, world classics, modern dramaturgy for children and adults. Theatrical performances, as a rule, begin at 19:00. The ticket price for an adult is about € 20. Premiers of productions begin in September. The theatrical season lasts until June.
