House of Faust

On the map of Prague, the house of Faust is located on Karlova Square in its southern side. The building was built in the Renaissance style, but has some baroque changes. For several centuries, physicists and alchemists lived and worked here, which in the minds of passersby firmly linked the legend with the history of the Prague house.

The story says that in the XIV century there was a palace of the branch of the Přemyslidi - Opava House, where the experiments on alchemy were conducted by Prince Václav himself. In 1590, the court English alchemist Edward Kelly worked here, who was later killed. Ferdinand Antonin Mladota was engaged in similar works and experiments here since 1724.

House Faust in Prague several times rebuilt and changed their owners, and almost all of them were considered alchemists and rich warlocks. In addition to alchemical "magic", there were murders, betrayals and treason, thanks to which the negative glory of the building grew. For a while the house was even empty, until in 1903 the hospital was opened, the best in the country at that time.

What is interesting about Faust's house?

The building wears No. 502, externally it is pale pink, with columns and bay windows - protruding elements of the facade. It still has a city hospital and a modern laboratory.

Mystics are not here, as, indeed, was not. Many legends and myths were about a hole in the ceiling through which the warlock was taken to hell. As the master and the builders did not try to repair it, it manifested itself, it fell through again. And even a German bomb in 1945, in a mystical confluence of circumstances, fell into it. In the last series of major repairs, a dip in the roof was sealed, and the room was consecrated.

Excursions are not held in the former building of the hospital, you can only inspect it from outside. Currently, there is a pharmacy and several ordinary shops.

To Prague, you can get by plane from most major cities in Europe and Russia, as well as by train or intercity bus.
