Vinohrady

One of the most prestigious areas in Prague is the Vinohrady (Vinohrady). The quarter is in the center of the city, but at the same time there are no signs of a modern metropolis. Tourists here are attracted by quiet streets and magnificent architecture.

History of creation

Until 1922, this part of Prague was a separate independent city and was called the Royal Vinohrady. This name was given by Emperor Charles the Fourth because of the huge number of vineyards growing here. For a long time, residents of the village did not want to unite with the capital, although they had a common transport system.

The area was built in several stages, for example, in 1888 Korunni Street appeared, and in 14 years - Riegrovy Gardens . Until 1949, Vinohrady was an independent unit, later this part of the city was divided into 2 parts, and after a while - by 5.
