Cave Krizna Jama

The cave Krizna Jama is a famous cave in Slovenia , also called an underground island. Krizna Yama is popular among tourists with its beauty and archaeological finds. For a long time it was a "storehouse" for the bones of extinct animals. There are still found their remains, so tourists carefully peer into the islets, hoping to find a bone unnoticed by archaeologists.

Information about the cave

The name of the cave "Krizna Jama" is translated as "the cave of Christ". It received its name in honor of the church of the building of Christ the Lord in the village. Podlozh, near which is located a natural landmark.

The cave is known for a lot of clean underground lakes. Also in it live 44 species of living organisms, making it the fourth largest in the world among cave systems. Scientists Krizna Yama was discovered in 1832, but the part where the greater number of lakes is located was investigated by speleologists only 94 years later. The first excursion was held in 1956.

The length of the cave is 8 273 m, and the depth is 32 m.

Visit to the cave

Visiting the cave Krizna Jama is possible only as a part of a tourist group of four people and a guide. Such small groups are justified by stalactites, which are very fragile and slowly grow to 0.1 mm per year. A large number of tourists will simply destroy them.

The visit to the cave lasts about two hours. During this time, tourists manage to overcome the path of 8 km. On the way, there are 20 underground lakes and repositories of the bones of extinct cave bears. The temperature in the cave is about 8 ° C all year round, besides it's damp enough, so it's worth thinking about clothes. Also note that in winter this temperature attracts more than 400 flying mice. They live there all winter.
