The Triple Bridge is located in the historical center of Ljubljana . The attraction is an ensemble of three bridges that are thrown across the river Ljubljanica . The triple bridge has a very unusual design, due to which it is an ornament of the old part of the city and a popular place among tourists.
Construction of bridges
An amazing ensemble was created for 90 years. In 1842, according to the project of the Italian architect, the first of three bridges was built. It bore the name in honor of Archduke Franz Karl and had two arches. At the beginning of the twentieth century, there was a need to expand the bridge, but instead architect Plechnik suggested building two more bridges that would parallel the existing one. He put forward a rather original idea, which the management liked. In order not to see the difference between the old and the new bridges, the cast-iron fence of the stone bridge was dismantled, and balustrades, the same as those on the new reinforced concrete bridges, were installed instead.
Until recently, the Triple Bridge was a travel pass, it was followed by public transport - buses and trams. But in 2007 the historical center of Ljubljana and with it the bridge were closed for traffic, and the bridge became pedestrian.
What is interesting about the bridge?
The triple bridge connects not only the banks of Ljubljanica, but also lies between the two main metropolitan areas - Central and Prešern . Because of this, every tourist, visiting the old part of the city, one way or another passes through the bridge. But no one has remained indifferent to him. The fence of the bridge in the Venetian style gives the impression that the structure was built several centuries ago. But still the bridge attracts its construction in the first place. Tourists stay here for a long time, walking one by one and then another bridge, choosing a more favorable angle for photography.
Interestingly, the Franciscan church houses the sculpture of Jesus Christ. In the XVIII century it was the main decoration of the wooden bridge, which preceded the stone bridge. It is also important that the last significant reconstruction of the bridges occurred in 2010, when the asphalt covering was removed, and granite slabs were placed instead.

You can get to the Triple Bridge by bus number 32. Exit at the station «MESTNA HISA». Next to the stop is the street Stritarjeva ulica, along which it is necessary to walk two blocks towards the river. It will take you to the bridge.
