Town Hall Square (Ljubljana) - description

The Town Hall building was erected in Ljubljana at the end of the 15th century and it had many elements of Gothic style, but in the 17th century the building succumbed to restoration. Now the premises of the Ljubljana Town Hall continue to be used in their own way, the city authorities are gathering here.

Many of the city buildings that are located on this square are made in the classical baroque style. This is due to the fact that the Italian architects decided to create a single architectural style of the Old City . The leader of the reincarnation was Gregor Machek, as a decoration he used the sgraffito style, a rather complex process that allows architectural buildings to remain for thousands of years in their original form. Town Hall Square (Ljubljana) contains such monuments of architecture:

  1. In the inner courtyard of the city council there is the "Fountain of Narcissus" , the architectural work of F. Robb and a monument erected in honor of one of the mayors of Ljubljana - I. Khribaru.
  2. Another work by Robb is located opposite the Town Hall building and has the name "Fountain of the Three Carniolian Rivers" . The fountain was launched in 1751 and consists of three water gods, according to legend - Ljubljanica , Sava and Krka. Currently, there is an original copy of the fountain on the square, and the historical memo was moved to the National Gallery for preservation.

In 1999, decorative tiles were laid throughout the Town Hall Square, so its architectural memorials began to look more expressive and accurate.
