Citiglogue

In the capital of Switzerland Bern, or rather in its historical part , is a unique clock tower, which attracts more tourists than the London Big Ben.

History of Citiglogue

Zytglogge is the clock tower in Bern , which was originally built as a defensive structure between approximately 1218 and 1220, but soon changed its purpose due to an uncomfortable territorial location. Until 1405 it was used as a prison, after which the building was damaged after a fire in Bern , and was soon rebuilt as a chapel. Since the 16th century, the tower has taken on a modern look, which we can observe to this day.

What to see?

In 1530, the clock turned into something more and now has 5 mechanisms: an ordinary clock and 2 devices for fighting hours, and the rest are responsible for the movement of figures on the tower. A unique feature is that the clock shows the sign of the zodiac in the current month, the day of the week today, the phase of the moon, the horizon line, the position of the Earth relative to other planets and constellations, up to the reverse side of the satellite.

4 minutes before each hour there is a real representation from those very figures on the tower. In the "play" participate: jester, God Kronos, bear, cock and knight. As soon as the right time comes, the cock starts crowing loudly, the jester beats the bell, after which the bear bears leave the tower and march around it. The knight strikes the big bell with the roar of a rooster and all this notifies that a new hour is coming.
