Cave Djalovicha


160 km from Podgorica , almost at the very border of Montenegro and Serbia, there is the cave of Djalovicha, which is considered one of the most beautiful and mysterious places in the world. Incredible landscapes, an abundance of labyrinths and underground waters make it the main goal for all cave explorers arriving in Montenegro.

History of the formation and study of the cave Dzhalovicha

This landmark refers to the Alpine folding, considered one of the youngest mountain formations. According to scientists, the process of the formation of the cave began about 65 million years ago and continues to this day.

The cave of Dzhalovich in Montenegro has been studied since 1987. At the moment, only 17 km of the dungeon have been explored, and 200 km remain unexplored. All available information about this sight was obtained by Serbian and Czech speleologists.

The difficulty of mastering the cave of Jalovic is due to the fact that its entrance is in the territory of Montenegro, and the dungeon itself is in Serbia. Both countries are slow to invest in its study, being afraid that one of the parties will take advantage of the achievements of the other.

The height of some rooms in the cave of Dzhalovich in Montenegro can reach 60 m, and the number of permanent lakes periodically increases to 30. The largest stalagmite is the formation of the "Monolith", whose height is approximately 18 m.

Excursions to the cave of Djalovicha

Currently, the entrance to this dungeon is allowed only to professional speleologists who have the necessary physical and psychological training. This is due to the fact that there are many caches and traps from which you can not get out without special equipment.

The entrance to the Dzhalovich cave is located above the two lakes of Montenegro - Devil's Whirlpools. In the summer they dry up and open up access to the dungeon. The duration of the tour of this landmark is 4 hours, with 2 hours left only for descent and ascent. During this time, you can study only 2.5 km of the cave.

How to get to the cave of Djalovicha?

To visit this natural attraction, you will have to go to the north-west of the country. The Cave of Jalovic is located only 2 km from the border of Montenegro and Serbia. The nearest town to it is Bijelo Pole , with which it is connected by roads E65 / E80 and E763. The route from the administrative center takes a maximum of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
