Bern Cathedral

The historical center of the capital of Switzerland is full of cultural monuments, but especially the tourists liked the Cathedral of Bern. Once in its place were two churches, but both suffered from disasters and were destroyed, which eventually led to the construction of the now existing temple, which eventually became the main attraction and symbol of Bern. In 1983, the cathedral and all other structures of the Old Town were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

What to see?

Only the appearance of the facade of the building already causes delight and makes you look at every detail. Above the central entrance is an incredibly beautiful bas-relief depicting the scene from the Last Judgment and participates in this 217 masterfully executed figures. The belfry of the cathedral reaches 100 meters in height and thus makes it the largest temple in all of Switzerland . It also houses the main bell of the cathedral, which weighs 10 tons and 247 centimeters in diameter.

The interior of the cathedral is represented by original 16th century furniture and 15th century stained-glass windows, among which the "Dance of Death" motif attracts special attention. The disadvantage is that during the Reformation in 1528 from the Cathedral in Bern was removed many items adorning it and works of art, because of which in our time the temple looks rather empty.
