Spathodea: African tulip tree

Spchatodea bell-shaped (Spathodea Companulata) is an evergreen exotic plant of the family of bignonia. It is also called the "tree of fire", "tree-fountain", "fire fountain" because of the huge bright red flowers.

What is good for a sleeping man?

Spathodeus is one of the most beautiful trees in the world, the homeland of which is Tropical Africa. The plant blooms almost all year round, however its decorativeness is not in flowers alone. Even when this tree does not bloom, thanks to the luxurious foliage it still has a beautiful decorative appearance.

African tulip tree has large rough leaves, placed in pairs. On a long cut they are usually 13-15 pieces. Oval dark green leaves up to 50 cm long are pointed at the edges. Gray or brown with spots the bark has a roughness. Flowers spadodei similar to tulips. Usually they are bright orange with yellow edging, dark red or yellow. Cups of flowers are always raised, and after the rain this beauty is filled with water.

After the spartan has faded, brown pods appear instead of flowers, about 10-20 cm long. Seeds are taken from these pods.

Growing conditions

Care for the spathode is very difficult. It is famous for its capriciousness and complexity of cultivation, which is associated with accommodation, lighting and fertilizer. It should be borne in mind that the tulip tree loves a light penumbra and does not tolerate direct sunlight. Under the sun, the leaves turn yellow, dry and begin to fall off.

The flower needs a warm room (in summer + 20-26 ° C, in winter not less than + 12 ° C), where there will be no temperature changes and drafts. Lowering the temperature adversely affects its appearance and poorly affects the growth of the plant. At a temperature of 0 ° C, the aerial part of the plant dies, the roots survive to -5 ° C. If the roots are preserved after freezing, they restore the tree.

Watering the spathode must be regular and moderate. Drying the ground or flooding the roots leads to the death of the plant. Humidity should be 65%. Dryness leads to loss of leaves.

The soil for the spathode must be taken loose, well drained. It can grow even on fresh soils, but the more nutritious the earth, the more abundant the flowering and the richer the foliage.

The African tree germinates from the seeds. This is the most optimal method of reproduction. You can also use cuttings, although this method is complex and unreliable. Cuttings often do not take root.

With proper care, the tulip tree of the spathode reaches 10-15 meters in height. In the natural environment, annual growth is about 1.5 meters. Cultivated and other varieties spatodei with a lower height.
