Features of Tis-Lysat

The natural sight of Ethiopia - the waterfalls of the Blue Nile (Blue Nile Falls) is a cascade that consists of the upper large waterfall and several small ones located below. It has a height of 37-45 m. Depending on the amount of precipitation and the season, its width can vary from 100 to 400 m.

Until the middle of the last century, the waterfall was more full, but then a part of the river water was directed to the hydroelectric power station, and Tis-Isat became less powerful. Over the waterfall against the backdrop of a bright sun, a rainbow often appears. These beautiful places attract many tourists from all over the world.

Below the Tis-Ysat the waters of the Blue Nile flow through a deep gorge. Through it is laid one of the oldest stone bridges in Ethiopia. It was built in 1626 by Portuguese missionaries.

How to get to the Tis-Ysat waterfall?

The Blue Nile cascades can be reached by bus. The road from Addis Ababa to Bahr Dar will take about 13 hours. Then, after transferring to another bus, which follows to Tis-Abbay, you will pass another 1 hour. From the village to the waterfalls, there is a meandering path, after about 30 minutes, you will discover a beautiful view of this natural landmark of Ethiopia. However, you should know that without a guide it is better not to go: here you can easily get lost. Passage to the waterfall is paid: the ticket costs a little less than $ 2.
