Karen Blixen Museum


Not far from Nairobi , at the Ngong hills , in the building of 1912 built, is the house-museum of the Danish writer Karen Blixen, who was simply in love with Africa. She called her house "Mbogani", which means "house in the forest".

History of the museum

The building of the museum was built by the architect Oke Sjogren. At thirty, Karen decided to move with her husband to Kenya and learn how to grow coffee there. They enjoyed a new home and a new business, until it became clear that Karen was seriously ill. The couple divorced, and the writer decided to stay in Africa. There she lived until 1931. After the house was sold. The museum was opened in 1986.

About the museum

In the museum Karen Blixen you will see the original interior items that were sold together with the house when the writer left Africa. Among other things there is an ancient bookcase. Part of the exhibition is devoted to the film "From Africa", based on the book of the same name by Karen. Requisites used for his shooting, were transferred to the museum.
