Lake Birkat-Ram is located at an altitude of 940 m above sea level. Its dimensions are small, the length is only 900 m, width - about 650 m, in depth it reaches 60 m. The lake is fed by meltwater from the top of the mountains and underground sources. Interestingly, Birkat-Ram was formed in the crater of an extinct volcano, so nature itself took care of the surprisingly correct geometric shape of the lake-the ellipse.

What is interesting about the lake?

There are many myths and legends connected with Birkat-Ram. Even the ancient Greeks called it "piala", and the ancient people of Iterev considered the lake a divine reservoir. Arabs also revere Birkat-ram, but only for another reason, they believe that in the summer heat old man Hermon drops his legs into the cool waters of the lake.

According to another legend, the lake is the "eyes" of the sheikh's wife, which is symbolized by Mount Hermon. As the terrain was separated from him, her eyes filled with tears.

Lake Birkat-Ram is famous not only for its beautiful landscapes, but also for an interesting archaeological find, it was made by archeologists in 1981 on the shore of a reservoir. A unique discovery was something like a female figure made of volcanic tuff. The age of the find is approximately 230 thousand years. Now it is kept in the Museum of Israel in Jerusalem under the name "Venus from Birkat-Ram". Also, archaeologists have found evidence of the presence of human settlements belonging to the Paleolithic era.

Lake Birkat-Ram for tourists

In the vicinity of Birkat-Ram there are many guest houses, campsites, in which tourists from all over the world are happy to receive. The main activities for the rest time will be fishing and boating. The lake is suitable for families, because children here will be comfortable learning to swim in the absence of strong waves.
