The Pretoria Art Museum

The Art Museum of Pretoria is exactly the place that many people visit, first of all, in order to get the most unique aesthetic impressions. It is here that are collected all the collections of works by South African sculptors, artists, photographers, as well as masters of textiles.

This landmark was created in 1930, and the first valuable collection appeared two years later. All this became possible after Lady Michaelis, after the death of her husband, bequeathed to the museum a large number of art objects, consisting mainly of canvases of the 17th century. The latter belonged to the brush of talented artists-graduates of the "Northern Dutch School", among them were Anton van Wowf, Henk Piernefeu, Irma Stern, as well as Peter Wenning and Frans Oerder.

Initially, all the art creations were located in the Town Hall, but already in 1964 the building was officially opened, which has become today the Art Museum of the capital of South Africa .

What to see?

The scale of the museum's territory can not but delight: it occupies a whole city block, surrounded by a park and two streets

First and foremost, what is worth seeing in museums is one of the largest collections of works by the famous landscape painter Henk Pirnef and the artist Gerard Sekoto. It is worth noting that they are considered to be the founders of the so-called black painting. By the way, after the death of the sculptor Lucas Sithol, half of his unfinished creations were transferred to the museum.

Art museum Pretoria - is the personification of the genius of South African creativity.
