Restoration of parquet

Parquet is one of the most luxurious, beautiful and expensive types of flooring. And this is one of the most durable materials. But, like any other material, parquet loses its attractiveness over time due to mechanical damage and discoloration. However, unlike any other cheaper flooring, parquet can be restored, giving it its natural beauty and attractiveness.

Restoration of parquet by own hands

The complexity of the restoration work depends on the nature of the damage to the old parquet. If you need to replace damaged dies, then it's better to ask for help from professional floorboards. Because it is a laborious process that requires special skills. But repair and restoration of the surface of the parquet, of course, will require a certain amount of time and effort, but the novice is capable of doing this work.

The tool required for the restoration work can be purchased at the store. However, this is quite expensive and it is unlikely that the need for it will arise often, so it would be more logical to take the tool for rent. And you need this:

Still need these materials:

Restoration and caking of the parquet surface can restore the color of wood, eliminate scratches, chips, potholes and irregularities. It does not involve complete or partial disassembly of the surface. It is enough only to remove a layer of old varnish, darkened by time and an aggressive external environment. This can be done with a grinder or a sewing machine. But you first need to maximally release the floor surface, including from the plinth.

In the corners, it is more convenient to use an angular grinder or an industrial dryer that heats the lacquer for subsequent removal with a spatula. In the event that, after the floor is bent, the differences in the color of the floor will be visible, then it is necessary to remove the varnish until the surface becomes homogeneous. And as during the removal of varnish a large amount of dust is formed, it is recommended to do this in glasses and a respirator.

After the layer of the old varnish has been removed, it is necessary to thoroughly vacuum the floor surface and inspect it for scratches, cracks and chips.

If there are small and shallow scratches on the parquet, it is enough to disguise them with a conventional wax pencil. And if the pencil does not cope with the scratch, then it is necessary to remove the varnish layer until the defect disappears.

And chips are eliminated with a putty mixed with the sawdust remaining after grinding. This is necessary in order to achieve the correspondence of the color tonality of the surface and the plaster cleaved. Similarly, the cracks between the plates are also sealed.

After all the defects are eliminated, you should thoroughly clean the floor of the dust and you can start painting. This is done with a brush or roller. The varnish is applied in a thin layer. The next layer can be applied only after the previous one has dried completely. To tint and varnish the parquet is necessary along the wooden fibers. Instead of a varnish it is possible to use mastic.

The result of these not very complex works will be the new life of the parquet. Therefore, knowing how to restore the old parquet, you can save significant funds for the acquisition of a new coating or the work of qualified professionals.
