Architectural heritage

The first thing you can see in Feodosia is the Genoese fortress, considered a visiting card of the resort. Its remains are located on the Quarantine Hill (the southern part of the city). The Genoese fortress in Feodosia is the stronghold of the fortifications of Kafa, which served as the center of the colonies of the northern Black Sea coast. In the past, the Treasury, the court, the palace of the consul, the residence of the Latin bishops, as well as shops and warehouses of valuable goods were located here. Today, from the fortress of the fourteenth century, there are two towers and four churches. Most of these structures have been restored.

The ancient churches of Feodosia are no less interesting sights of the Crimea. One of them is the Armenian medieval church of St. Sarkis (Sergius), built in the XIV century. There is a version that the temple was erected even earlier, before the appearance of the Genoese on the peninsula. The pride of Armenian art is khachkars - stone-slabs with inscriptions and carved images of crosses, which are in the temple. Also, this temple is famous for the fact that I. Aivazovsky is baptized and buried here.

Since Feodosia is a city where many religions are interwoven, there are also Muslim shrines. These include the Mufti-Jami Mosque built in 1623. Its architectural forms are vivid examples of Istanbul architecture, honed by centuries. When the Turks from Feodosiya emigrated, the mosque was adapted to a Catholic church. Today the mosque is functioning here again.

Bright architectural landmarks are also the dacha "Milos" from 1909-1911 and the summer residence "Stamboli" in 1914.

In 1924-1929 in Feodosia lived a great dreamer Alexander Green. In a building where five years the writer created his famous novels "Running on the Waves", "The Golden Chain", "The Road to Nowhere" and many stories, today the Green Museum works. In Feodosia this institution is very popular. Here you can see the recreated details of the cabinet and the living room of the writer, personal belongings. The museum often hosts exhibitions, creative meetings and evenings.

Another place visited in Feodosia is the Museum of I. Aivazovsky. Originally, a gallery was opened here, and in 1922 it became a museum. Here you can see the things of his family members, portraits, pictures. The collection has about six thousand works of Aivazovsky, which makes it the largest in the world. This artist is dedicated to such monuments as the fountain of Aivazovsky (1888), the monument "Theodosius to Aivazovsky."

Undoubtedly, the Museum of Coins deserves the attention of the guests of Theodosia, where more than two hundred coins are exhibited, which in different years were minted in the city for other states, the Museum of Nature of Kara-Dag, representing all kinds of plants and animals of this region, the Museum of hang-gliding,

and also the Karadag nature reserve and the dolphinarium operating on its territory.

Visiting Feodosia once, you will forever leave unforgettable vivid memories of this amazing resort city in the heart for life. Bored here do not have a single minute!
