Types of brick masonry

Brick - this is a popular finishing material, which is used for decorating walls, fences and columns. It has excellent thermal insulation properties, is inert to moisture, does not burn out in the sun and does not deform during many years of operation. In addition, with the help of facing brick, you can create an interesting masonry, with a unique original design. What types of brick decorative masonry are most popular and what are the design features of each of them? About this below.

Varieties of brickwork

Consider the main types of brickwork:

  1. Continuous masonry . Monolithic construction with a width of half a brick. The stone is placed along the outer wall. The rows of bricks are indicated by "versts", and the filled intervals between them are "zabutkami".
  2. Lightweight masonry . Suitable for the construction of single-storey houses / cottages. It consists of two parallel walls half a brick wide. The strikes between the walls are filled with heat-insulating materials. Important point: when building lightweight masonry through a meter in height, you need to add a knife row.
  3. Reinforced masonry . Used in objects that experience heavy loads. In the horizontal and perpendicular seams, iron rods are located, and every 3-4 rows of masonry the transverse reinforcement is performed (rectangular metal grids).

Here, the main masonry technologies were described, the choice of which depends on the number of storeys and the load on the building. However, there is another classification, based on a brick "pattern." Here you can identify the following types of masonry:

  1. The spinal ligament . Here the bricks overlap half the length. This masonry provides an ideal closure of the lower seams. Used for facing residential houses of any number of storeys.
  2. American bandaging . Several rows of spoon dressings alternate with one row of bump bricks. Stitches during laying are shifted.
  3. Flemish masonry . Spoon and bouncer bricks alternate in each row.
  4. Complex decorative masonry . Here, various design elements of brickwork are applied, for example, blanks, belts, cuts and ledges. With them, the wall relief becomes more interesting and dynamic.

Specialists advise paying particular attention to the method of laying, as this determines the amount of construction material spent and the price for the work.
