It's hard to believe, but in the near future, the auction house Guernesy's plans to put up for sale as many as 55 doors from the legendary New York hotel "Chelsea".
At one time, such a star as Bob Marley, Madonna, Edith Piaf, Liam Neeson, Stanley Kubrick, John Bon Jovi stayed at this cult hotel, which is called the "Museum of American Culture". This is only a small part of the guests who have become an integral part of the history of this unique place.
Chelsea is one of the most famous hotels in the city of the Big Apple. In 1977, he was among the first to be included in the National Register of Historic Places of the United States. At one time in the walls of this location there were loud bohemian parties - musicians, actors, artists gathered.
Just a few curious facts about Chelsea: it was here in 1978 that the body of Sex Vistols bassist Sid Viches, Nancy, was found, and before that Jack Kerouac lived and worked in the hotel. The result of his residence in "Chelsea" was a cult book "On the Road", which is considered the symbol of the generation of beaters.
To date, Chelsea no longer accepts visitors. The last guest of this amazing place was registered in the summer of 2011.
Jim George and his incredible findings
"What does the door have to do with it?" You ask. Since 2002 and up until the moment when the hotel ceased to exist, it was inhabited by a certain Jim George. The new owners of the building were going to reconstruct it and evicted all the guests. Mr. George was homeless. He spent time on the street near Chelsea and saw how the loaders carried out various rubbish from the hotel, including doors. George felt an impulsive desire not to let these relics sink into oblivion:
"I wanted to keep these doors. I cherished memories of Chelsea, I spent many happy days in its walls and loved the hotel with all my heart. "
However strange it may sound, George managed to save doors from 55 rooms, and they will be put up for auction. Anyone can buy a rare book that is directly related to Jimi Hendrix, Iggy Pop, Mark Twain, Humphrey Bogart and Johnny Mitchell.

The starting price of the "star door" is $ 5000. The auction is scheduled for April 12, 2018. Jim George, remembering his difficult times on the street, ordered that part of the funds that will be received from the sale of lots, was sent to the fund to help the homeless New York.
