History of Landeck Park

Since 1992, the low hill of Landek (its height of only 280 m above sea level) with its picturesque slopes has been recognized as an environment protection territory and has received the status of a national reserve . Through the efforts of the Czech authorities in these parts, it was possible to preserve some historical galleries and to open in 1993 the world's largest Museum of Mining. If you go back many centuries ago, according to research, 23 thousand years ago on the mountain Landek already produced coal. Therefore, the idea to preserve the historical heritage of the local places was approved, and at the same time to acquaint visitors with the life and work of the miners.

What is interesting about Landeck Park?

In addition to the picturesque expanses of the Landek National Reserve, it will be interesting to visit a huge complex dedicated to a very difficult and dangerous kind of activity - coal mining. The museum exposition consists of 3 parts:

  1. Mine Anselm. First of all, tourists are led to the chain locker room - this is the place where the chains are mounted in the ceiling, on which the clothes of miners hang. After that, on the elevator, everyone descends into the underground labyrinths, where coal mining is being carried out. During the operation, the depth of the mine was 622 m. Tourists are offered to descend only 5 meters, but the sensation is that the excursion in the underground tunnels is very deep. Visitors will be able to see the restored atmosphere of old galleries, equipment used for working in mines, lamps, tools, security systems, as well as learn about the peculiarities of labor and recreation of miners. The mannequins located in this room will help to understand how the work process is going on. Underground exhibition takes about 300 m in length. One of the most interesting exhibits is the first horizontal drift.
  2. Exhibition of mine-rescue equipment. Here you can see costumes of rescuers, protective helmets, various instruments, measuring instruments, etc.
  3. An open exhibition of large-size equipment on the surface of the mine allows you to see large mining machines, including cranes, coal combines, drilling rigs, loaders, mine locomotive, rotors, etc.
