Finishing the ceiling is one of the most important stages of renovation in an apartment. Here you can use different finishing materials, starting with ordinary wallpaper, ending with exotic aluminum profiles. However, most options assume a preliminary leveling of the surface, which takes a lot of time and effort.
If you want to make repairs as quickly and inexpensively as possible, the best option will be a ceiling tile. Its cost is relatively low, and the editing process is so simple that even a woman can cope with it.
Tile Properties
Ceiling plates are made of expanded polystyrene, which is commonly called foam plastic. This material is popular because of the low price and variety of patterns on the surface: imitation of marble, wood, iron and various color scales.
To create noise insulation, fiberglass slabs mixed with starch can be used, and for plates in eco-stiles - wooden slabs. However, expanded polystyrene remains the most affordable and popular material, which steadily enjoys high demand. This is due to the properties that the foam tile possesses, namely:
- easy to clean with any non-abrasive products;
- installation takes only a few hours;
- Before installation, it is not necessary to hide irregularities and remove old filler;
- In contrast to plasterboard and suspended ceilings, tiles do not reduce the height of the ceiling;
- at strong pollution it is possible to paint with water-emulsion paint;
- easily dismantled.
The disadvantages of tiles are several, but they are quite substantial. The biggest disadvantage is that it is made of combustible material, which affects the fire safety of the house. In addition, the seams at the joints are well distinguished due to which the aesthetic appearance of the room deteriorates.
Which ceiling tile is better?
Depending on the type of surface, the following types of ceiling tiles can be distinguished:
- Laminated ceiling tiles . This is the most expensive version of the coating, which has a special coating - lamination. Due to this the surface has a light glossy shade and a pleasant smooth texture. Lamination allows the use of plates in rooms with high humidity, where you often need to wash the ceiling.
- Seamless . It has smooth edges without edging, so it is easy and pleasant to glue. The areas of docking of tiles are almost not noticeable, which makes it possible to create the illusion of a smooth, uniform ceiling.
- Mirror . For manufacturing use plastic, the front side of which is covered with a mirror layer. Its main feature is visual expansion of small rooms.
Which of these options to choose for your apartment? Here you need to be guided by the desired visual effect. If you want to surprise guests with an unusual corrugated ceiling, then use a laminated board, and if you want to create a false ceiling effect, seamless products will do.
We carry out registration from a ceiling tile
The installation of the products is quite simple. On the inner surface a thin layer of X is applied glue. After that, the tiles are pressed against the ceiling for a few seconds. To avoid deep seams, the plates are fastened closely to each other.
Now we need to decide on the order in which the tiles on the ceiling will be located. A classic option is to mount parallel to the walls. If you want to show your individuality, then you can paste the ceiling tile diagonally. In both cases, the installation must be done with the orientation of the arrows on the inside of the plates. This will help properly match the pattern and evenly coat the entire surface of the ceiling.
