Costa Rica - surfing

Costa Rica is a real paradise for surfers. Its coasts are famous for their high lush ridges, which fill hundreds of athletes. In the country there are a lot of resort towns , travel agencies and even sports schools, where they teach surfing and organize trips to the best coasts. The most suitable time for classes is the period from January to April, but in other months you will be able to find suitable places on the coasts of Costa Rica. North coast

The North Pacific coast of Costa Rica has become famous not only for its excellent places for surfing, but generally good conditions for a beach holiday . On it often tourists break campings, and there are many hotels in which you can safely stay.

Near the coastline is the province of Guanacaste. On its coast often blows dry wind, which contributes to the formation of ideal conditions for surfing. Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Roca Bruja, Playa Negra and Avellanos became the favorite coasts of the sportsmen. The season of surfing in this part of Costa Rica begins in mid-January and lasts until the end of March.

To get to the Pacific North coast from San Jose, you can use the bus to the canton of Orotina, and then change to the ferry or continue your journey by car.

Central Coast

Near the central Pacific coast is the real capital of surfing - Jaco . It is full of shops with specialized clothing and equipment, there are small chips and firms that conduct training sessions. A few kilometers from Playa Hermosa is the small town of Esterillos. In it, too, surfing is thriving, but it is interesting in this area for beginners. The waves on its coast are relatively small, but the surf happens quite often. In the city you can find all the necessary equipment for surfing in specialized stores.

You can take a bus to this coast of Costa Rica by direct bus from the international airport. The journey takes approximately 2 hours.

South coast

The South Pacific coast has become famous for its great waterfalls and a wide, spacious beach. The best place to surf in this part of Costa Rica is Playa Dominica, which is in the Dominical area. Along the coast, camping sites are often located, despite the fact that there are many good hotels nearby. In this area, waves at any time of the year are suitable for skiing on the board. During the Christmas holidays and Easter, a large number of surfers are gathered on the beach, but on the other days of populousness is not observed. The ideal time to practice your favorite sport is the period from December to April, when the waves reach a medium size (up to 2 meters) and have a curved shape. In these months there is no shallow water.

Coast of the Caribbean Sea

The coast of the Caribbean Sea in Costa Rica is always sunny and warm. In this area waves for surfing appear in early January, it is at this time and the ideal period for surfing begins. It lasts until mid-April. The most powerful and wide waves are observed near the beach of Salsa Brava and Mean Salsa.
