Gangrenous stomatitis in cats

Like any living thing, cats can suffer from all sorts of diseases. These include stomatitis - a disease of the gums and teeth. In addition, such an inflammatory disease can spread to the lips, palate and even the tongue of a cat.

Signs of stomatitis in cats

A cat suffering from stomatitis may experience some of the following symptoms that require serious treatment:

Stomatitis can occur in an acute form or be chronic. Veterinarians distinguish three types of stomatitis: catarrhal, ulcerative, and also gangrenous. The latter form is considered the most dangerous and difficult to cure. With gangrenous stomatitis in cats, rotting of tissues in the oral cavity occurs, decay of the jawbones. The animal lymph nodes increase, the body temperature rises.

Treatment of stomatitis in cats at home

Very often, the owners do not immediately pay attention to the unpleasant odor from the mouth of a cat, a change in its behavior and a reduced appetite. Delay in treatment can lead to the most severe consequences in the form of gangrenous stomatitis with complications. Therefore, when the first signs of stomatitis appear, the animal should necessarily be shown to the vet.

The doctor at a visual examination will determine the extent of mucosal involvement in the oral cavity of the cat. After this, you may need to take blood tests, urine, scraping from the affected mucous.

If the stomatitis has arisen at a cat on a background, for example, chumki or herpes, it is necessary to treat, first of all, the basic disease.

In no case do you treat stomatitis in a cat by human means, since those medicines that are intended for humans can cause severe poisoning in an animal. After the diagnosis, the veterinarian will prescribe an adequate treatment for stomatitis to your cat.

At home, the veterinarian can prescribe to the animal the treatment of sores and wounds with traumel, dentavidin, lugol. It is possible to irrigate the oral cavity with herbal decoctions with antiseptic and wound healing properties.

Gangrenous stomatitis is treated with antibiotics, fortifying agents.

In addition to the use of drugs, you should pay attention to the diet of a sick cat, excluding from its menu all the rough food. Dry food should be replaced with canned food, fish and meat - on puree, soups, mousses and porridges. All food should be slightly warm.
