Helen Mirren told about the longing for Russia

In the near future on the screens will be a British series about Catherine the Great. The role of the Russian Empress is played by Elena Mironova, known as Helen Mirren, an English actress with Russian roots. Mirren has a lot of experience in portraying royalty on the screen, only British queens she played three times.

On the eve of filming a new film in an interview with the Russian NTV television channel, the actress admitted that she would be happy to visit the motherland of her ancestors, because many episodes are planned to be shot in Russia.

Pictures of the past

Talking about the film, one of the themes of which is longing for home, Helen remembered the story of her family:

"My father left his homeland as a child, then he was only two years old. It was much easier for him, and he did not live in the past. But my grandfather was very worried. This wound was not healing throughout life. After all, all his relatives, mother and sisters, stayed there. And he knew that he would never meet with them again. If we add to all this the loss of our culture, history and native language, it becomes clear - to endure such unbearably hard. And I also grew up with the feeling of this pain. As a little girl, I often spent time with my grandfather and well remember his longing. He painted me different pictures from his past life, depicting a dacha not far from Moscow and stables with beautiful limes and pink bushes in the district. He remembered everything to the last detail and tried to convey to me every bit of his memory. And after many years my sister and I were lucky to visit these places. I saw all this with my own eyes and could walk through this land. I will never forget this impression. There was no home or garden, but the very feeling of this story warmed the soul. In memory of our great-grandmother, who was very fond of flowers, my sister and I planted a rose bush, but I think it has long dried up. "

Lots of sky

Helen Mirren confessed that she wants to return to Russia:

"In the new film, I play Catherine in her later years, the times of Potemkin. In my heart, I conceal the hope that the shooting will be partially held in Russia and that this will happen already this year. There is nothing like Russia, so close to my heart. This scale, buildings and palaces. And so much of the sky. "
