The installation of a sink in the countertop is a rather laborious task, requiring a master of a certain skill. Otherwise, you can damage both the sink and the surface of the countertop. To prevent this from happening, before starting work, find out how to properly cut the sink into the countertop.
How to cut a kitchen sink?
First, you need to decide on the method of the sink . Depending on its design, you can install a sink below the countertop. However, for this complex work requires a special tool, so it is better to entrust this work to the master.
You can cut the sink at the same level as the table top. In this case, it is important to carefully prepare the surface of the countertop beforehand. This is a very laborious and precise work, on which depends on the correct installation of the sink.
The most common type of installation is the installation of a sink above the countertop. Such a box can be made by hand at home. Let's look at how this can be done.
For work we will need:
- level;
- roulette;
- corner;
- screwdriver or drill with a 12 mm drill in wood;
- pencil;
- screwdriver;
- nazhdachka;
- electric jigsaw;
- sharp knife;
- transparent silicone sealant;
- self-tapping screws.
- It is more convenient to work if the table top is not fixed yet. To begin with, you need to mark out the contours of the box from inside with a pencil, into which the sink will be placed.
- On the removed and inverted tabletop we mark the point where the center of the wash bowl will be located, using two perpendicular lines. Sometimes on the package from the sink you can find a drawn template for its installation. Consider that you are lucky! But if there is not such an assistant, you will have to circle the contours of the sink with a pencil, applying it to the table top.
- In the kit for a sink you should have got also fastenings: plastic or metal. Better, of course, the latter: they are more durable and reliable. Install one fastener on the sink. Now measure the width of the sink sides, taking into account the protruding fastening. Usually it is approximately 12 cm (+ 2 mm for backlash). Inside the contour of the sink draw another line parallel to it, but spaced by the required distance. On this line we will cut our car wash.
- In order to correctly cut a hole in the sink in the countertop, it is necessary to drill through holes in several places, but so that they are very close to the cutting line, but do not touch it. And this is done necessarily on the front side of the countertop. Then we insert a jigsaw into these holes and cut a part of the countertop along the cutting line. Insert the sink into the hole and check that your work is correct. Wipe the table top against dust. The place of the cut must be carefully smeared with silicone to avoid wetting the countertop under the influence of water.
- Now you can attach attachments to the sink, and put the seal on the rims, making sure that it does not protrude from the edges. Apply silicone sealant on it.
- After bending the fasteners inward, we insert the sink into the hole. Turn the countertop over and tighten the fasteners.
- We set the countertop in place and check whether the washing is evenly pressed against the perimeter by fasteners.
- Wipe out the silicone thoroughly from the sink. Our sink is installed.
