Sewing curtains with eyelets is quite painstaking and requires more time than when making ordinary curtains . However, the final result will pay off all efforts and you will receive elegant modern curtains.
Production of curtains on eyelets
Before sewing curtains on the eyelets, you need to buy the necessary tools and material. You will need:
- the cloth,
- lover's ribbon;
- thread with pins,
- sewing machine;
- scissors;
- iron;
- eyelets.
To make the curtains have beautiful folds, you need to purchase a wide curtain. The ideal width will be 2 times wider than the window. The length of the curtains should be 5 cm above the rod, since the cornice will be at the same height as the ring, and the top 2-3 cm above. In addition, you should know how to calculate eyelets for curtains. Remember that the rings should be an even number, so that the marginal folds turn to the wall. The distance between the rings is 4-8 cm, depending on the required depth of folds.
The sewing process
Consider the tailoring of curtains on the example of a product with a separate lace border. The process can be broken down into stages:
- Cuff manufacture. Take a piece of cloth 25 cm wide and mark the middle.
- Attach a 10 cm wide lapel strip to the target line. Glue the tape using an iron.
- On the side where the tape for the eyelet is attached, iron the seam allowance. The second allowance is ironed on the front side of the cuff.
- Stitch the ends of the cuff.
- Turn out the end sides of the cuffs and lay inside the curtain in such a way that the glued edge was on top, and the bevel was 2 mm below. Lay a stitch.
- Before you install the eyelets on the curtains, make chalk marks for the rings. In our case, the distance between the eyelets on the curtains is 8 cm. The distance from the top of the cuff is 4.5 cm.
- Cut the holes 2 mm more from the drawn line.
- Attach the eyelets and close the upper part until it clicks.
As a result, you will get smart curtains, which can be hung on a round cornice. If you are working with a piecework curtain, then the upper edge should be stitched according to the proposed scheme excluding the moment with the reversing of the ends of the cuff. Do not forget to iron all the folds. This will simplify the sewing process and make the product more aesthetic.
