International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer

On September 16 , the whole world celebrates the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. This day was proclaimed in 1994 by the United Nations (UN). The date is set in honor of the signing by the representatives of different countries of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. This document was signed by 36 countries, including Russia . According to the protocol, the signatory countries are obliged to limit the production of ozone-depleting substances. Why is this special attention paid to the ozone layer of the Earth?

How useful is ozone?

Not everyone knows what important functions the ozone layer performs, why and how it can be protected. With educational goals on the day of protection of the ozone layer, a lot of events take place that help to bring information to a large number of people.

Ozone layer - this kind of shield from a mixture of gases, protecting our planet from the harmful effects of a significant proportion of solar radiation, so that there is life on the planet. That's why his condition and reliability are so important for us.

In the 80 years of the twentieth century, scientists noticed that in some places ozone content decreases, and in some regions - catastrophic rates. It was then that the notion of "ozone hole" arose, which was fixed in the Antarctic region. Since that time, all mankind has been closely involved in the study of the ozone layer and the influence of certain substances on it.

How to save the ozone layer?

After numerous scientific experiments and detailed study of this of the issue, scientists have established that ozone depletion leads to chlorine oxide, without which the activity of numerous industrial enterprises is impossible. Also, chlorine-containing substances are actively used in many branches of the economy and industry. Of course, they can not be completely abandoned yet, but it is quite possible to reduce the negative impact, using modern equipment and the latest methods of work. Also, each of us is able to influence the state of the ozone layer, limiting the use of ozone-depleting substances in everyday life.

The International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to this issue and optimize efforts to solve it. Usually the day of the ozone layer is accompanied by numerous ecological measures, in which we recommend taking an active part to all not indifferent inhabitants of the planet.
