general information

Yamtli is a museum complex belonging to the provinces of Jämtland and Herjedalen, located in Östersund . Yamtli is one of the largest outdoor museums in Sweden. The idea of creating the complex belongs to the couple Festin (Eric and Ellen).

The Yamtli Museum was opened in 1912, and Eric Festin became its director. Initially, it was aimed at collecting ancient exhibits, also there were organized courses of folk dances, needlework and a music department. All this was created in order to preserve the traditions , which quickly began to be forgotten in the era of industrialization.

Due to the fact that the collected collections were stored and exhibited in various significant places in the city, it was decided to build a separate building. In 1930, its grand opening for the public took place. The first expositions included collections of textiles, archaeological finds and art objects.

The Museum of Jamtli in our days

Since 1986, the life of the peasants of the XVII-XVIII in Yamtli has been reproduced with the help of a scene and actors. For example, guests can go to church for service, watch the work of laundresses or cooks. An interesting feature of Yamtli is that here you can take a lesson, for example, cooking dishes according to old recipes with observance of all ancient technologies. Children are also actively involved in activities: the little one with pleasure sweeps the floor with a broom, carries water in buckets, learns to do handicrafts, etc.

In 1995, the entire collection of the museum moved to a new building with modern equipment, and in the old one now there are an archive and a library. The Yamtli Museum regularly participates in a number of international projects and was awarded several prizes:
