Miner's Day

The miner's day is a professional holiday, when people who extract minerals honor the population with vital energy. He takes his story in 1935, when the miner A. Stakhanov managed to set a world record on the night of August 30-31, having extracted 102 tons of coal instead of the seven tons set by the norms. This event became fatal for some cities.

It is impossible to say exactly the date of what day the miner's day is celebrated, because it falls on the last Sunday in August. However, in 1947 an order was issued in the USSR that the first celebration of the Day of the Miner should be held on August 29. As well as more than sixty five years ago, this professional miner's holiday is one of the most popular in the territory of the countries of the former Union. So, as before, with a wide scope, the Miner's Day is celebrated in Ukraine, Russia, as well as Estonia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Traditions and modernity

In some cities, this day is considered the main and favorite holiday. In Neryungri, Vorkuta, Karaganda, Kemerovo, Severouralsk, Kirovsk, Shakhty, Lugansk, Gorlovka, Makeyevka, Sverdlovsk, Int, Krivoy Rog, Donetsk, Gukovo, in a number of other cities where coal is actively mined, and of course, in Stakhanov on the Day miner, large-scale concerts are held, which attracts famous singers, creative groups. Traditionally in the evening, the sky is lit by beautiful fireworks, and the people are enjoying themselves at the festivities till morning.

By the way, the coal mining industry in some cities is so paramount that the Miner's Day and City Day are celebrated simultaneously. We are talking about Donetsk, Berezovsky, Gorlovka, Prokopyevsk, Makeyevka, Shakhtersk, Sol-Iletsk, Krasnokamensk, as well as Cheremkhovo and Solegorsk.
