City Hall

The year of foundation of the first town hall in Mogilev is 1578. However, the building, made of wood, was burnt during a fire. The construction of the stone building began in 1679 and ended in 1698. During its long history, the town hall suffered several more fires, but it was always restored and repaired. During the Great Patriotic War, the building was subject to severe destruction and in 1957 it was decided to blow up the town hall. After that, negotiations were held for a long time to restore it. But the laying of the first brick occurred only in 1992. In 2008, the new Town Hall building, rebuilt on the site of the old building, was inaugurated. Speaking about the interesting things in Mogilev, we can not fail to mention the statute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the original of which is kept in the museum located in the Town Hall building in our time.

Holy Cross Church

The Holy Cross Cathedral and Borisoglebskaya Church in Mogilev make up one architectural complex. The first mention of the church dates back to the 17th century. Initially, the building was built as an apartment house and only later was rebuilt into a church. During the rebuilding, the walls of the church were decorated with magnificent frescoes in the national style. However, these murals have not survived to the present day.

Bishop Mogilev Sylvester I Kosov in 1637 made the Borisoglebsk church his residence. On the territory of the Orthodox monastery, where the church was located at that time, he founded a cathedral, an almshouse, a school, a printing plant and a hospital.

At the beginning of the last century the church was closed. However, during the German-fascist occupation it was reopened. The church of Boris and Gleb, renamed in 1986 in the Holy Cross Holy Cross Cathedral, has been in operation since 1941 until today.

The Catholic Church of St. Stanislaus

The Church of St. Stanislaus in Mogilev is a unique monument of medieval architecture. In the middle of the XVIII century the facade of the building was slightly changed. The church acquired the classicism of the column and the triangular pediment characteristic of the style. The main value of the church is the ancient frescoes, which are painted walls of the building. They were created at different times. Paintings of saturated colors were painted at a later time, while dim murals were created in an earlier period.

Being in the church of St. Stanislaus, you should pay attention to the organ. Its distinctive feature is the original ceramic tube. In total, there are four organs in the world that have such a design. The amazing acoustics of the church allows you to conduct organ music concerts of incredible beauty.
