Steam insulation for the roof

Steam insulation for the roof is needed to keep warm and comfortable indoor climate. It protects building structures and a warming layer from a condensate, a moisture and steam which appears in a premise in the course of ability to live. All insulation and wood that are used to install the roof, have the property of absorbing moisture, which leads to decay and destruction of the material.

Which vapor barrier is best for the roof?

Now, foil materials are used as a vapor barrier, which have a complex multilayer texture. They are elastic, resistant to damage and simple to install.

Since when fixing the film vapor barrier is not torn, maintains integrity, it is better to choose it to protect the roof from moisture and mechanical ruptures.

Films come in two types - polyethylene and polypropylene.

The polyethylene version is not very strong, so they are reinforced with an additional mesh or cloth. They are perforated or not perforated.

For rooms with high humidity ( saunas , baths, pools ) films are used, finished on one side with aluminum foil. They have very high insulation rates. The foil fits inside the living room. It not only protects from the formation of condensate, but also reflects thermal radiation, that is, the heat will be kept as much as possible inside the room.

Polypropylene films are a woven material reinforced with a synthetic layer on both sides. They are resistant to solar radiation, quite strong.

Often, polypropylene films have an antioxidant coating that retains the condensate that quickly dries. Such material should be placed rough surface in the room.

Particular mention should be made of vapor permeable diffuse membranes with a large number of small holes. They are able to pass water vapor, accumulate it and then it gradually evaporates. With proper packing, the membrane is provided with a system of normal ventilation and allows the roof to "breathe". They are divided into types - ordinary and voluminous. The volumetric membrane inside has an interlayer that removes moisture from the heater and performs the function of an antioxidant.

Usually diffuse membranes are placed outside the insulation, that is, from the cold side of the roof. Moisture from the outside, if it gets into the film, it evaporates. When installing the membrane, read the instruction and place it with the correct side.

Using films on both sides of the insulation reduces the likelihood of it getting wet and allows the material to work with maximum efficiency.

Features of the roof insulation

Most often, the films are available in the form of rolls, this facilitates their laying. They are lapped, seams are sealed with adhesive tape. It ensures the greatest safety of the coating.

The film is mounted vertically or horizontally. It is fixed to the wooden parts of the roof over the heater with the help of staples or studs with wide hats. The material should be a solid carpet, no omissions and through holes should not remain.

After installing the films, the blocks are fixed on top so that the inner covering of the ceiling is not in contact with them. This is done to ventilate the under-roof space.

Especially carefully it is necessary to glue the joints of pipes, tightly seal them with adhesive tape.

Now it is clear which vapor barrier is needed for the roof. As a result of such arrangement of the roof, the protection of the insulation will improve and the life of the heater will be substantially prolonged. Comfortable conditions inside the premises will be provided.
