Moisture also absorbs this material in minimal amounts.
Fiberglass has very similar characteristics. It differs only in its greater resistance to high temperatures, and absorbs moisture even more. So it is important to take into account the presence of water repellent coating during installation. Glass fiber very well protects from external noise and thus has a low weight.
The first two materials on the market for a long time and stay firmly afloat. But they have a strong modern competitor extruded polystyrene foam . It has a relatively low cost, it weighs a little and its coefficient of thermal insulation is low. The only drawback is that the material does not breathe, so you have to think through the ventilation system.
How to warm the roof of the house?
The technological process provides three main options for fixing the insulation for the roof:
- between rafters;
- on rafters;
- under the rafters.
Most often the insulation is laid between the rafters. In any method, it is important to do every step correctly, as negligence can provoke rotting of the structure and the roof will simply collapse after a certain time. Before you begin to insulate the roof of the house from the inside, it is worth outlining some of the most common mistakes and take them into account in the future.
First, always qualitatively fix the insulation, otherwise the so-called cold slots are formed. Secondly, do not forget about the ventilation clearance when installing the heater. It is this carelessness that leads to rotting and accumulation of moisture. Also you can not forget about the vapor barrier.
Now in detail we will consider how to insulate the roof of the attic .
- We measure the step between the rafters and, according to the measurements, measure the liners of the insulation, cut off taking into account a small gap. This gap should be just small, otherwise the heater will sag.
- We install and fix the waterproofing.
- Next, we need to place a heater between the rafters. Due to the gaps, the heater will stay between the beams on its own. If possible, we lay the heater with the minimum number of seams. Work better from the bottom up. Ventilation distance approx. 2 cm.
- Next is a layer of vapor barrier. Here, be careful not to confuse the outer and outer layers. The fact is that the vapor barrier will not let the moisture inside, but it will remove it from the inside. We fix everything with a construction stapler. We process all the seams with an insulating tape.
- Now follows the lattice of wooden bars. In the future, these beams will be used for finishing the attic from the inside.
