History of the breed

This Turkish breed of domestic cats appeared many centuries ago. She, like all other types of domestic cats, originated from a common ancestor - a wild African cat. The ancestors of the Angora cat were brought to Egypt, where they soon became widespread. Here, after a while, a mutation of the shorthair gene of ordinary cats occurred, and the angora became the owner of a semi-long coat. Most appreciated were fully white, semi-long-haired cats with different eye colors: one was blue and the other was yellow-green in color.

In Europe, the Turkish Angora cat breed came from the Middle East, where it was already widespread, around the 16th century, although there are reports that the first specimens of this breed were imported earlier, even during the Crusades. Here, the beautiful and aristocratic appearance of the cat was also appreciated. Cats of angora breeds were used for breeding and for improving fur in Persian cats .

In the improvement of the breed also contributed to the American breeders, who took several representatives of this species from the zoo of Ankara (Turkey).

Appearance and character of the Turkish Angora breed of cats

The Turkish Angora is a slender and graceful cat of medium size with silky wool almost without undercoat. It has a wedge-shaped and well-defined muzzle, almond-shaped eyes, medium-sized ears. The legs of these cats are slender and long enough, and the feet are small and round. Angora has a long, pointed and fur-lipped tail. Previously, the representatives of the breed were considered to be cats only completely white, but now there was interest in other colors of such a cat, specks are allowed.

By the nature of the Turkish Angora is very sociable cats, who do not like to remain alone. They are affectionate and active enough throughout their whole life.
