World Children's Day

More than 60 years ago at a meeting of the UN General Assembly a resolution was issued recommending to all countries the introduction of the World Children's Day. At the same time, each state could appoint a form of celebration and the date of the World Children's Day at its discretion.

When is World Children's Day celebrated?

The Universal Children's Day is officially the official day of the Universal Children's Day, the United Nations considers the date of November 20, since it was then that the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was proclaimed in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted 30 years later.

In many post-Soviet countries: Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, this holiday is known as the International Children's Day, and it is celebrated in these countries on June 1.

In Paraguay, the establishment of the World Children's Day holiday is associated with the tragic events that occurred on 16 August 1869. At that time in the country was the Paraguayan war. And on this day up to 4,000 children, who were not even 15 years old, rose to defend their lands from the Brazilian and Argentine aggressors. All the children died. In memory of these events it was decided to celebrate the Children's Day on August 16.

The celebration of the World Children's Day should contribute to improving the well-being of all children and strengthening the work that the UN is carrying out for all children of the world. This worldwide celebration should strengthen the solidarity, brotherhood and mutual understanding of children around the world, as well as cooperation between all nations.

Today, the goal of the holiday of children of the whole planet is the elimination of any problems that destroy the well-being and peaceful life of each child. World Children's Day is called upon to protect the interests and rights of every child living on our Earth.

According to the sad statistics, about 11 million children die every year in the world who have not lived to the age of five, many children are physically and mentally mentally ill. And many of these tragedies could be avoided, and illnesses can be cured. In many countries, such children's dramas are the consequences of destructive ignorance, poverty , violence and discrimination.

The United Nations, and in particular its Children's Fund, is working hard to protect children, from birth to adulthood. Particular attention is paid to the health of expectant mothers. Medical control is conducted throughout the entire pregnancy of a woman, all necessary measures for the management of childbirth and postnatal care of a woman and her child are provided. Thanks to these activities, infant mortality has declined in the world, which is especially encouraging.

One of the most important areas in the activities of the United Nations Children's Fund is to help people with AIDS and HIV-infected children. Also a lot of work is being done to attract children to school education, it's no secret that many more children do not enjoy all their rights on an equal basis with the rest of their peers.
