Attic window

Attic windows are installed for ventilation and lighting of the attic and non-residential rooms under the roof. Today they are becoming more popular, as modern design involves the installation of a complex roof with numerous architectural elements and decorative structures.

Varieties of attic windows

On the location of window structures are located on gables and ends, in skates, even in flat roofs.

There are two types of windows - auditory and mansard . The first are installed vertically, have their rafter structure in the form of a small house, one- or two-slope roof, can have side walls.

Semicircular form ("bat", "frog's mouth") is a rather interesting model in the design of the roof. Such an attic dormer window is distinguished by smooth graceful lines of the roof.

A triangular and quadrangular window on the roof slope may not have side walls, their role is assigned to the slopes.

Mansard sloping windows on the roof slopes are built parallel to the roof and do not have canopies, are not protected from precipitation. They are much easier to arrange, but the frames have increased requirements for insulation and strength. Modern plastic designs make it possible to choose models with pivoting convenient opening mechanisms.

At the end of the roof or on a flat roof, round attic windows are often installed, outwardly they resemble portholes. They can be completely glass for lighting the room or performed as a stained-glass window for the stylistic decoration of the mansion. On flat roofs, dome structures made of translucent materials are also sometimes installed.

Attic windows on the roof transform the appearance of the building. They can be arranged in several pieces in a row, they must correspond to the general architectural style of the structure, complement and significantly decorate its design.
