Glaucoma is a disease characterized by increased intraocular pressure. In complex treatment, selective beta-blockers are used to provide antihypertensive action. One of them is Betoptik: eye drops that help reduce blood pressure and prevent serious complications of the disease.
Eye drops Betoptik instruction
The active ingredient in the preparation is betaxolol hydrochloride. The substance effectively reduces the activity of the special eye receptors that produce the liquid. As a result of suppression of their functioning, the intraocular pressure decreases.
The medicine Betoptik is used in two cases:
- increased ophthalmotonus;
- therapy and prevention of open-angle glaucoma.
Contraindications to the use of drops are:
- diabetes;
- hypersensitivity to ingredients;
- pregnancy, lactation;
- childhood;
- atrioventricular blockades of 2 or 3 degrees;
- heart failure in severe form;
- sinus bradycardia;
- myasthenia gravis.
Betoptik - eye drops that are addictive. Despite the high effectiveness of the drug, it must be alternated during the course of treatment with other beta-blockers.
Constant monitoring of the level of intraocular pressure is achieved already in the first month of use of the drug. The application consists in instillation (administration) of a drug solution in a conjunctival bag twice a day for 1-2 drops. The duration of treatment is determined by the ophthalmologist, based on the results of therapy and the tendency to stop the progression of glaucoma.
Side effects that cause droplets to the eye Betoptik:
- bronchial spasms;
- headache;
- bradycardia ;
- lacrimation;
- itching and pain in the eye;
- dryness of mucous membranes;
- dyspnea;

It should be noted that it is preferable to use solutions with the same active substance (betaxolol), because, in comparison with other beta-adrenoblockers, it does not lead to a decrease in the intensity of blood flow in the optic nerves and is safer.
