Cate Blanchett: "How to teach children to be tolerant in a society that does not share my views?"

The famous actress, Oscar winner, Keith Blanchett not only actively deals with issues of refugees, but also since 2016 is the UN Goodwill Ambassador. At the 48th World Economic Forum in Davos, Blanchett was awarded the Crystal Awards as an art figure bringing positive changes to modern society. While in Switzerland, the actress gave a public interview in which she described the reasons for her decision to help refugees:

"I'm from Australia, and we have taken an interest in what is happening in the world. And since our population is a migrant, I was always surrounded by multiculture. But people are arranged so that sooner or later there is an interest in their history and their own roots and once, throwing a backpack on my shoulders, I began to travel. The adventure, to which I ventured, was full of surprises. Sometimes I had to spend the night in terrible conditions, but then I saw and learned how most people live, who had to flee their home from their native land. Most of them had nowhere to go, many slept on the ground, on some cartons, at stations. So I learned the extent of this problem, because in the media there is usually no reliable information. Often these unfortunate people are exposed in a completely different light. "

The system against

Kate Blanchett talks about the problems of refugees, studying thoroughly all spheres of their lives, restrictions on rights and freedoms, issues of education and health care. According to the actress, the problem is so deep and extensive that it requires great resources, human understanding, sympathy and help, full illumination in the information environment:

"Today there are approximately 66 million settlers, some of whom are refugees, and half of them are women and little girls. The situation is that only 1% of these refugees were granted asylum under normal conditions and within the framework of the law. The population of many countries is still cautious and cautious about refugees, since they were taught from infancy that these people are in danger. Most of these poor people daily risk their lives, trying to find their place and get to a safe haven, often deciding on dangerous and illegal movements. Despair in the eyes of these people makes you think about your own life and priorities. After all, we all were lucky to be born in civilized developed countries, we live in a democratic society. We must participate and influence the processes that take place around us. I'm a mother and I'm worried. I have four children and I teach them tolerance and tolerance - to share and accept different people as they are. But in conditions of the system established by our society and not sharing this point of view, it is extremely difficult. We need to build on compassion. And we must finally understand that a diverse society is good, it is a great opportunity for development. "

Open your heart

Kate Blanchett admitted that she was happy to be involved in such a great mission and was trying to sound as broad and louder a problem as possible, so that every day more and more people could get shelter and help:

"I'm not an expert, but I'm constantly getting to know different people and, after learning their history, helping to find a solution to the problem, I learn about the possibilities of financing, programs and projects. I can not solve the problem of all refugees on Earth, but I can tell them about the society so that as many people as possible can learn how hard it is for these people to reach out to help them open their hearts. We must be able to listen and hear and accept the opinions of others with respect. This is the only way we can make decent decisions in our lives. "
