Caring for a fizzy at home

  1. Location - cypress does not like direct sunlight, so it is better to have it on the eastern and northern windows of the apartment, creating a small shading in the summer. For wintering it is better to send it to a well-lit room.
  2. Temperature regime - this plant does not tolerate high air temperature, so it is better to place it on a loggia or in the coolest room, away from batteries and heaters. In winter, the temperature in the room should be +8 - + 10 ° C.
  3. Soil - optimal for growing cypress is a mixture consisting of turf, peat, sand and leaf land, taken in the proportion of 3: 1: 1: 1. Necessarily on the bottom of the pot you need to put drainage, for example from expanded clay and pebbles.
  4. Watering - for a good growth, a cypress tree needs copious watering from spring to autumn itself, and in winter - as necessary, without drying or overflowing the soil. Since coniferous plants like moist air, it is recommended to spray it in hot weather daily, and in winter to spray only if it is kept in a warm room.
  5. Feeding - during the period of active growth (from May to August), it is recommended to feed monthly with liquid organic fertilizer for indoor plants in half the dosage, before this, necessarily loosened the ground. In winter it is better to use a complex mineral fertilizer.
  6. Reproduction - can be carried out in spring with seeds or lignified cuttings (in spring and summer), using peat tablets for their rooting.

How to transplant a cypress?

Transplantation of young cypresses should be carried out annually in April or May, but adult plants - in 2-3 years, depending on the pot content of the roots. Most often, a transplant is not used with a complete replacement of the soil, and a partial transshipment is carried out when it is stored by an earth clod around the roots. This is very important for the conservation of symbionts, which are necessary for the assimilation of the necessary elements from the soil.

Cypress - diseases and problems

Often, due to improper care for a cypress, he begins to ache and pests settle on him: a spider mite or scutes . If the cypress tree dries, because these pests have wound up, the only thing you can do is sprinkle the tree with an insecticide and acaricide.

And with the appearance of root rot caused by an overabundance of moisture in the pot, it is recommended to transplant the plant into another container, cutting off the damaged areas.

Very often cypress is used as a bonsai and gives it interesting shapes, regularly pruning its roots and crown.
