Embossing Powder

About the interesting needlework technique called scrapbooking today heard many. But only real connoisseurs of this art know how many techniques there are to arrange a scrapbook , notebook or postcard in accordance with the original idea.

One such technique is embossing, involving the use of specialized materials. Let's find out what this technique is.

What is embossing in scrapbooking?

Embossing is embossing (extrusion) on a flat surface of convex forms. These can be points, lines, simple figures or prints of more complex shapes. Embossing can be of two types:

  1. For dry embossing, special tools are needed - a figured composter, a crimper or an embossing machine, as well as stencils. The image is created under pressure, and paper or cardboard is usually used as raw materials.
  2. Wet (hot) embossing is inherently not a stamping, but only its imitation. The effect of volume is achieved with the help of special dies, markers, glue and powder. This technique is suitable for creating images on any surface - tissue, leather, metal, wood, etc.

Powder for embossing - how to work with it?

In order to create an image in the technique of wet embossing, it is necessary to grease the stamp with glue or ink, and then make an impression on the selected surface. After that, sprinkle the drawing while it is still wet, powder for embossing, and bake it in a special way. For this, a hair dryer is used, but not a household one, but a special hair dryer for embossing. It gives a high temperature of the air at the output, as a result of which the powder is sintered, and you get a spectacular, as if a volumetric image.

As for the powder itself, it can be of different colors and shades, with or without sequins, with varying degrees of detail in the picture. The most popular manufacturers of embossing powders are Ranger, Distress, Stampendous, American Crafts.
