Gloriosa - home care

Exotic gloryosis is a bright representative of the melantite family, home to which is South Africa. At home, Rothschild gloriosa and gloriosa are usually grown luxurious. Fans of home-grown exotics should take into account that all representatives of this family - the plants are poisonous , so the content requires compliance with a number of rules.

This beautiful vine leaves are whole, bright green, and the flower of the gloriosa is large, bright red, with wavy yellow edges of petals. The main feature of solitary flowers, reaching ten centimeters in diameter, is the pestle, bent to the side.

Planting gliroid

This plant is usually planted in January-early March from the tubers. For the planting of gloriosis, a nutritious substrate of medium density (humus, leafy earth, medium sand in a ratio of 4: 2: 1) is needed. Be careful with the tuber - it is very fragile. Any damage to it will lead to the death of the plant. Before planting the glirosis, carefully examine the tuber, because the growth point in it is unique (from the part of the tuber the lianas will not be grown). Growing gloriosis is a long process. The tuber should be "ripened" in the ground, and this can take two months. And do not try to satisfy your curiosity by digging out the tuber! Proper planting and subsequent care of the gliosis guarantees you several months of continuous flowering.

Content of gloriosis

Lianas plants are warm and light-loving, so a little darkened at noon the southern window sill is the most suitable place. Care for glirosis at home is not difficult. In the spring, in the summer, water your pet every other day, and in the rest period following flowering, stop watering altogether. When the ground is completely dry, gently remove the tuber, put it in a container (transparent, glass) and fill it with sand. Until January, store in a shaded cool place. In winter, it will again be ready for planting.

After germination, the stem is covered with antennae that clings to the supports. If you help glorious, having established a support, then it will grow faster. After a month or two, the plant will be covered with buds, and then with flowers that will bloom one after another. Blot out the drying flowers immediately.

Reproduction

If everything is clear with the tuber, then it is not so easy to propagate the gloryosis with seeds. You will need to manually using a brush to gently collect pollen from the stamens, and then transfer it to the pestle. Thus, the seeds will be tied, and they must be sown immediately, because the germination capacity is lost with every minute. The gloriosis grown in this way will blossom only three years after germination.
